Quick Action Saves Lives
Time is critical when it comes to chest pain. Our streamlined processes and teamwork allow us to deliver the very best heart care in the timeliest manner.
The treatment process for chest pain begins the moment you dial 911. After a quick assessment in the Emergency Department, we transport patients to the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory for treatment. Our doctors use cardiac catheterization (balloon angioplasty) to restore blood flow to the heart, minimizing damage from a heart attack. Fewer than 25 percent of hospitals nationwide provide this level of care. Our systematic approach has resulted in superior “door to balloon” times, which are in the top 10 percent of the nation. Every minute counts during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when therapy is most effective.
Reading Hospital was one of only 54 hospitals nationwide to achieve Mission: Lifeline Gold level recognition from the American Heart Association for outstanding performance in providing quality care for STEMI patients. STEMI is the most serious form of heart attack.
