Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

Welcome to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), the only facility in Berks County to offer simultaneous video EEG monitoring of the brain’s electrical activity while recording the patient’s behavior.

The EMU features private rooms equipped with advanced digital equipment and techniques and multidisciplinary specialists to evaluate patients with seizure disorders. Monitoring is also used to determine the cause of loss of consciousness or awareness when the exact cause is unknown.

We are located on a specialized floor focused on neurological care. Dr. Sowmya Lakshminarayanan directs the EMU. Dr. “Lak” is dual fellowship-trained in Neurophysiology with an emphasis on epilepsy and Sleep Medicine. She is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of individuals faced with epilepsy and sleep disorders, in addition to treating other neurological conditions.
