Education and Research

Reading Hospital is an independent academic medical center providing comprehensive acute care, post-acute rehabilitation, behavioral, and occupational health services. The West Reading facility in scenic Berks County consists of a 22-building complex located on a 36-acre suburban campus.

Our Medical Staff exceeds 970 physicians and allied health professionals in 53 distinctive specialty fields.

A regional referral center for cardiac, cancer, neonatology, behavioral health, and orthopedic services, The Reading Hospital and Medical Center perennially ranks among the top four Pennsylvania hospitals in: patient admissions, surgical procedures, emergency care volume, and outpatient services. Our ancillary departments include: nutrition services and dietary counseling; laboratory services; radiology; respiratory therapy; speech and hearing services; physical and occupational therapy; chaplaincy; social services; and comprehensive behavioral health services, including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and drug and alcohol detoxification.

Medical education is an integral part of our mission with a fully-staffed Academic Affairs Department dedicated to graduate medical education, continuing medical education, and research.

Reading Hospital prides itself on its high standing as a teaching institution, offering five residency programs as well as graduate and undergraduate training.

Our residency and medical training programs are supported by institutional affiliations with Jefferson Medical College, Drexel Medical School, Pennsylvania State University, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Temple University, and are accredited through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American Osteopathic Association.
