Staff members from The Reading Hospital will undertake the largest mass CPR training event in the history of the county at the Reading Phillies game at FirstEnergy Stadium. The event will be held prior to the game on Thursday, August 25.
Dubbed, "Black-Out at the Ballpark," the event will feature a 60-second video demonstrating what to do in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. The message in the video to call 911 and immediately begin CPR will be reinforced by employees of The Reaidng Hospital who will demonstrate compression-only CPR on the field.
In addition, HeartSAFE Berks County grocery totes will be distributed to 5,000 game attendees.
The goal of HeartSAFE Berks County is to improve the survivability of sudden cardiac arrest victims living and working in the county. We encourage citizens to get involved and be ready to use CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED) to save a life where they live, work, and play.
As part of this Hospital initiative, The Reading Hospital and Medical Center and The Friends of The Reading Hospital and Medical Center distributed AEDs to all first responders in Berks County in late 2010.
