Hospital Names New Section Chiefs

The Reading Hospital has named new Chiefs for the Sections of Geriatric Medicine, and Endocrinology and Metabolism. Both appointments take effect January 1, 2010.

Karen E. Smith, MD, of Mohrsville, will provide medical leadership for the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism while overseeing clinical operations of the Diabetes Center at The Reading Hospital.

Following graduation from Hamburg High School, Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA. That was followed by two years of pre-medicine training at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ.

A graduate of George Washington University Medical Center, Dr. Smith is fellowship-trained in Endocrinology from the same institution. In addition to being board-certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Smith is also board-certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

Ruxandra O. Jadic, MD, of Wyomissing, is the Hospital's new Section Chief of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Jadic will be based at The Reading Hospital Medical Group's Center for Aging in Wyomissing.

Dr. Jadic completed her medical training at Carol Davila Medical University in Bucharest, Romania. She received fellowship training in Geriatrics from Staten Island University Hospital, NY, and is board-certified in both Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine.
