Regional Cancer Center Receives Perfect Score During Recent Audit

At the end of June, the Protocol Office of The Reading Hospital Regional Cancer Center was audited by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), and recently learned they received a perfect audit without even one minor infraction. ECOG is one of the largest clinical cancer research organizations in the country and specializes in clinical trials involving adult cancers.

This was the first time this particular ECOG audit team awarded a perfect score to any institution.

The Protocol Office facilitates the availability of clinical trials from Fox Chase Cancer Center and other national cancer groups for Regional Cancer Center patients. Patients at high risk for developing cancer also participate in the trials.

Some of the other national cancer groups include:

• Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group
• Radiation Therapy Oncology Group
• Gynecologic Oncology Group
• National Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project
• American College of Surgeons Oncology Group

The Center's research staff is under the direction of Terrence P. Cescon, MD (Principal Investigator) and Patricia Weiser, RN, CCRP (Nurse Manager).

The Reading Hospital Regional Cancer Center is under the medical leadership of Charles J. Lusch, MD.
