Hospital Assists Soldier in Iraq Witness Birth

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

The Reading Hospital was able to assist an Army Staff Sergeant witness the birth of his first child via internet and satellite technology.

In coordination with Freedom Calls Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps military members connect with loved ones in the states, the Hospital was able to establish a direct link to Iraq so that a Mt. Penn soldier could be with his wife during 36 hours of labor, followed by the birth of their son.

Mom, dad, and baby are doing great.

The story was covered by WFMZ-TV and aired Monday night, June 8.  You can see the story by following this link: http://wfmz.com/view/?id=1118389
