Sorensen Named Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Gregory K. Sorensen, MD, has joined Reading Health System as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

Sorensen most recently served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Bon Secours Health System with responsibility for medical staff services, health informatics, clinical quality, laboratory, imaging, and pharmacy. While at this Maryland-based system from 2010 through 2012, Dr. Sorensen led the clinical transformation team, as well as the implementation and optimization of Epic™ electronic health record.

His prior experience includes 11 years at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, as Executive Director, where he created a pediatric hospital within a hospital, established the first pediatric hospitalist program in the northwest United States, led a multi-specialty practice group of 40 pediatric specialists, chaired the patient safety initiatives and created and led the Gossman Center for Medical Simulation.

Dr. Sorensen had also served as director of pediatric cardiac anesthesiology and critical care at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and simultaneously was associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Washington.

Dr. Sorensen received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska, where he had previously earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. His postgraduate education included a pediatric residency at the University of Washington, a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Vanderbilt University, and a return to the University of Washington for a fellowship in neonatal and respiratory diseases followed by a residency in anesthesiology.

He is a diplomat of both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Anesthesiology, and a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
