Mary AgnewMary Agnew, RN, MS, CNS, NEA-BC, Wyomissing, is the new Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of The Reading Hospital and Medical Center

In this position, Agnew will be responsible for all professional nursing services and practice standards in the system and will administer Inpatient, Emergency, Critical Care and Maternal Child Services; Chaplaincy Services, and organization education.  She will assure fiscal, material, and human resource management and delivery of high quality, collaborative patient-centered care.

As CNO, Agnew will oversee the maintenance of high standards of professional nursing practice. She will serve as a member of Hospital senior leadership, provide strong vision for nursing practice and strategic planning for nursing services, and assure organizational implementation of the nursing professional practice model and excellence of nursing service outcomes.

Agnew, an experienced nursing leader, served since 2007 as Chief Nursing Officer for the 506-bed Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She had responsibility for 1,100 members of nursing staff, a level IV regional perinatal center and acute inpatient, perioperative, critical care, emergency, behavioral and women’s services; two freestanding ambulatory surgical centers, an ambulatory care clinic, and the Crouse Hospital College of Nursing. Agnew was a member of the clinical faculty of the State University of New York Upstate College of Nursing in Syracuse.

Agnew has served in various leadership positions including Vice President of Patient Care Services at Cayuga Medical Center and as the Executive Director of the Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County, both in Ithaca, NY. She is a graduate of the Wharton School of Management for Nurse Executives at the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University’s Executive Development Program in Johnson School of Management. She holds her master’s degree in nursing from Syracuse University and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.
