Rules & Regulations
Each student enrolled in the Reading Hospital School of Medical
Laboratory Science will:

Respect the confidentiality of patient records and use
discretion when discussing patient matters.

Finish reading assignments in a timely manner.

Fulfill the requirements for each department rotation according
to each department’s guidelines.

Follow established safety procedures.

Report to lecture/ lab on time, return promptly from lunch and
breaks, and behave in a pleasant and orderly manner so as not to
disturb others.

Exhibit professional behavior in response to stat requests,
recognition of his/her own mistakes, and recognize the
importance of accuracy and timeliness of result reporting.

Dress in a professional manner and with regard to safety.

Use free time in the lab to improve skills and volunteer to
assist with patient workload after demonstrating competence in
the learned skill.

Demonstrate respect and compassion in his/her interaction with
patients and other healthcare personnel both in person and over
the telephone.

Participate actively in the lab/lecture experience by answering
questions, taking notes and demonstrating interest and attention
to the subject matter during rotations or lectures.

Respond to criticism and challenges of multiple assignments and
tests administered by the various departments and lecturers in a
positive and constructive manner.

Be forthright in all interactions and will not cheat or
plagiarize in any academic assignments.

Acknowledge that a minimum passing score of 77 percent must be
maintained in each lecture, lab, and affective component and
failure to do so could result in academic probation and ultimate
dismissal from the program if that grade is not attained.

Acknowledge that progression in and ultimate completion of the
program will be contingent upon successful completion of all
criteria outlined above.
