Brain Injury Program

The Brain Injury Program team is led by Dr. Sanghoon Kim, Medical Director, who is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Heather Nissley, PhD, is our fellowship-trained Rehabilitation Neuropsychologist. 

The Brain Injury Program serves patients recovering from the following conditions:

  • Acquired, non-degenerative brain damage
  • Aneurism
  • Anoxia
  • Brain Surgery
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries

Our experienced treatment team specializes in meeting the unique rehabilitation needs of individuals who are recovering from brain injuries. We customize a care program that allows our patients to reach their maximum potential in a secure, caring environment with professionals who promote recovery of valuable life skills.

In addition to the excellent medical care provided by our physicians and neuropsychologists, patients can expect specialized brain injury treatment in the form of:

  • Physical Therapy: for mobility, muscle strength and flexibility, balance, and coordination
  • Occupational Therapy: for activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and other important life skills
  • Speech Therapy: for self-expression, swallowing, and cognitive remediation
  • Recreation Therapy: for social, cognitive, and leisure skills
  • Nursing: for patient care and education, provided by specialized rehabilitation nurses
  • Case Management: for developing realistic discharge plans and ongoing follow-up.

Our 11-bed secured Brain Injury Unit is located on the first floor of  Reading Health Rehabilitation Hospital. The unit provides specialized care for patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries. The Brain Injury Unit is secured for patients with confusion and behavioral issues to allow for increased independence while ensuring patient safety.

Our Brain Injury Support Group meets monthly, and provides ongoing support and follow up for patients, family, and friends. Learn more...
