Diabetes and Nutrition Classes

All classes are held at 1991 State Hill Road, Wyomissing. For class times, dates,  more information,  or to register, please call 610-988-HELP(4357).

Multiple Daily Injection Class

This program is for the person starting or already taking four or more injections a day. The program reviews adjustments of doses based on blood sugar readings, exercise, illness, carbohydrate counting, and eating out. Registration is required.

Diabetes and You

American Diabetes assosication-recognized program of four classes helps individuals learn how to manage this disease. Topics include what to eat, the meaning of blood sugar numbers, and how to make decisions to stay health. This class is for people newly diagnosed or longtime diabetics with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. Registration is required.

Diabetes Review Class

For those individuals who have completed the Diabetes and You program. Reviews meal planning, treatment options, problem solving, and goal setting. Registration is required.

Gestational Diabetes Class

Provides information on reasons for developing Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), exercise, blood glucose monitoring, meal planning, goal setting, problem solving, and medications. Class is offered in English and Spanish. Registration is required.

Insulin Pump Education

Pump Classes

For individuals starting pump therapy. Provides education on meal planning, problem solving, highs and lows with a pump, and button pushing. Registration is required.

Would An Insulin Pump Be Right For Me?

Reviews mechanisms of pump therapy, as well as advantages, disadvantages, and patient responsibilities. Provides information to make and informed decision. This calss is free and open to all ages. Registration is required.

Pre-Diabetes Group

This program focuses on healthy eating, portion control, label reading, dining out, and exercise. Helps you make the changes necessary to delay or prevent diabetes. The classes are offered in two sessions, each two hours in length. No physician referral is needed. Registration is required. Cost is $50.

 


Pre-Diabetes Support Group

This program is designed to provide people with the opportunity to keep themselves informed and educated, and for social networking. Those who have completed the Pre-Diabetes Group Class are encouraged to participate in the support group. Registration is required. Cost is $10.


Supermarket Tours

Did you ever wish you could take your diabetes dietician to the grocery store with you? Well, now you can. Sign up for a guided tour at a local Redner's Market. Registration is required. Cost is $10 and includes tasting samples and coupons.
