Lactation Support Services
Our
lactation consultants are health care professionals who are
knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced in lactation (breastfeeding).
Our Lactation Support Services provide education, assistance and support
to breastfeeding women seven days a week.
- Breastfeeding education for expectant mothers
- Instruction and support following delivery
- Assistance for breastfeeding infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Assistance for breastfeeding mothers during any hospitalization
- Resources and information on breastfeeding aids and equipment
- Education and support for healthcare providers
- Telephone support after discharge from the hospital
Breastfeeding, like most fundamentals of parenting, is learned, not instinctive. But after a little time, patience, and instruction, mom and baby find success. If you have never breastfed before - and even if you have - it is natural to have some questions. Please call 610-988-9299 to speak with one of our lactation consultants.

The Reading Hospital has been recognized for excellence in lactation care with the IBCLC Care Award from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).
The Reading Hospital and Medical Center has received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition for staffing International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and providing a lactation program that is available 5-7 days a week for breastfeeding families. In addition, the facility demonstrated that they have provided recent breastfeeding training for medical staff that care for new families, and have recently completed activities that help protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
