The Reading Hospital Laboratory is an integral part of The Reading Hospital and Medical Center. It is one the largest comprehensive and progressive Clinical Laboratories in the state performing nearly three million tests annually. The laboratory provides clinical and anatomical services.
The scope of the clinical laboratory includes chemistry, coagulation, courier services, hematology, microbiology (including molecular testing), phlebotomy (inpatient and outpatient centers), point of care testing, specimen processing/receiving, transfusion services, and urinalysis.
The anatomical lab focuses specifically on cytology and histology. The Cytology Department processes over 55,000 Pap specimens and 4,000 non-gyn/FNA specimens per year. The department utilizes both the SurePath and ThinPrep systems to process liquid based Pap specimens. In addition to screening slides, the cytotechnologists assist with the collection of over 250 FNA specimens.
The laboratory team is diverse and provides a wide opportunity for clerks, laboratory assistants, medical technicians, medical technologists, cytotechnologists, histotechnologists, phlebotomists, pathology assistants, and pathologists. Staffing and scheduling varies by department and shift. You may be a generalist or a departmental specialist.
