The Friends of Reading Hospital Tower Golf Classic – Proceeds Will Benefit Patients at McGlinn Cancer Institute

The Friends of Reading Hospital held the 15th Annual Tower Golf Classic on August 9, at LedgeRock Golf Club.

After the event, McGlinn Cancer Institute was presented with a check for $50,000 for Cold Cap Therapy for its oncology patients. Cold Cap Therapy offers an innovative approach to minimizing hair loss through the use of fitted cooled caps that constrict the blood vessels in the scalp, protecting hair follicles from damage. This initiative will help to alleviate the fear and anxiety of hair loss many patients experience when undergoing chemotherapy.

Patrick Colarusso, DO, Reading Health Physician Network - Hemotology and Oncology will receive the honors on behalf of McGlinn Cancer Institute.

Other projects and initiatives supported through the Tower Golf Classic include funding for a Food Service Van to aid the Reading Recreation Commission's Food Service program in delivering meals to at-risk city youth in the City of Reading. Proceeds from this event also help fund the purchasing of iPads for Telemedicine Stroke Assessment. Using the iPad and a secure Facetime application, pre-hospital providers and emergency physicians are able to easily and quickly communicate for rapid evaluation of stroke patients, enhancing diagnosis of stroke symptoms.
