The Friends of Reading Hospital to Hold City of Reading's Premiere Half-Marathon at Road Run

The Friends of Reading Hospital will host the annual Reading Hospital Road Run the morning of Sunday, October 16, 2016. This year's unique schedule includes a 1-Mile Fun Run/Fitness Walk, a 5K and half marathon run -- one of the fastest growing road races in America.This is the first year that a half marathon race will be included as part of the annual event. Each course is mapped around the outer edges of beautiful downtown Reading. The half marathon course traverses Mt. Penn and passes the Pagoda and Firetower, making it both a scenic and historic route.

The weekend's activities include a runner's expo and dinner at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Reading on Saturday, October 15. The race itself features instant result timing using the Jaguar disposable chip timing system, cash awards to top half marathon finishers, finishers medals for half marathon participants, high-tech wicking t-shirts, free parking and a post-race party.

There will be a training program available through A Running Start that will help interested runners prepare for the event. The race is limited to 3,500 runners and registration is open. Registration is free for all participants signing up for the 1-Mile Fun Run/Fitness Walk.

David L. Kline, Executive Director Promotions & Circulation, President WEEU, Reading Eagle, is this year's honorary chair for the event and Diamond Credit Union will be this year's Tower Sponsor. All proceeds from the event help to achieve Reading Health System's mission of Advancing Health. Transforming Lives. of Reading Area community members and benefit projects of The Friends of Reading Hospital, including HeartSAFE Berks County. The Friends recently donated 102 AEDs to schools throughout the community, providing greater access to these life-saving devices.
