Reading Health Employees are "Walking to California"

Beginning Monday, August 1, teams of 10 Reading Health employees will begin a virtual 5.6 million step journey to the west coast. The walking challenge, "PA2CA", will last eight weeks ending Monday, September 26. Teams of employees will be challenged to walk 10,000 steps or more every day to reach the overall 5.6 million team step goal. At the end of the eight weeks all teams that log the required number of steps will be entered into a drawing to win a trip to California. One lucky team will have the opportunity to work with co-sponsors of the challenge, White Star Tours or Boscov's Travel, to select a four day, three night trip to Disneyland®, San Francisco, San Diego, Napa Valley or Rancho Palos Verdes. Employees can also bring a guest on the trip for a discounted price.

All participants will use a Fitbit device to track their steps for the duration of the challenge. As an added incentive, employees can purchase the Fitbit Flex® for $10 to participate in the challenge.

Reading Health believes employee wellness leads to a productive and positive work environment and wants to encourage all employees to live healthy, active lifestyles. It can be a challenge to fit exercise into a busy schedule and this exciting challenge will encourage employees to monitor their daily step goals and set additional personal fitness goals. Reading Health encourages employees to reach their fitness goals with support from their teammates, coworkers, family and friends. Employees with additional health goals are encouraged to monitor their individual progress during the eight week challenge. To help employees monitor their progress Reading Health will offer pre and post screenings to look at height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure and recovery heart rate.

Employees are encouraged to share their progress on social media using the #RHSPA2CA. Photos posted with this hashtag will be shared internally to motivate other employees.
