Reading Health Announces Formation of Foundation, Appoints Foundation President

Reading Health announces the formation of Reading Health System Foundation, and the appointment of President, Reading Health System Foundation.

The mission of Reading Health System Foundation is to support innovation, research, education, and transformation of healthcare services to align with future health needs. The Foundation was formed in January, 2015. Contributions to the Foundation from grateful patients, individuals, families, employees, foundations and corporations will enable transformative vital projects, programs and services.

The Foundation is led by a volunteer board of directors that includes community leaders, physicians and Reading Health executives. Board Members include:

Katherine Thornton of Wyomissing, Pa., has been appointed President, Reading Health System Foundation after serving as interim executive director of the Foundation since September, 2015. Prior to joining Reading Health, Ms. Thornton most recently served as Development and Public Relations Director for the Reading Public Library, where she developed and executed a comprehensive fundraising, public relations and community outreach program to support the growth and awareness of the Library and its services. She also previously served as Director of Volunteer Services for Reading Health System and provided consulting services for planning, donor outreach, marketing, research and special events for Berks County non-profit organizations. Prior to moving to the Berks County area, she held positions in Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Ms. Thornton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount University of Virginia, and is nearing completion of a Masters in Leadership Organization from Alvernia University, Reading, Pa. She is a member of the Association of Fundraisings Professionals, and holds a certificate in Principles of Fundraising from Villanova University.
