Community Invited to Tour Reading HealthPlex on Saturday, October 15

Reading Health will hold a Community Open House at its new Reading HealthPlex for Advanced Surgical & Patient Care on Saturday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The HealthPlex is located at 423 South Seventh Avenue, West Reading, Pa.

The open house will include self-guided tours of the state-of-the-art facility as well as entertainment by local community groups, healthy refreshments, ambulance tours, a chance to meet the PennStar helicopter pilots, yoga stretching, blood pressure screenings, bicycle helmet safety and car seat safety.

The program will begin at 11 a.m. with brief remarks from Reading Health Leaders and a ribbon cutting. Activities with Reading Health departments and community partners will take place outside, and inside guests can take a self-guided tour.

Reading HealthPlex combines the hospital's many surgical services into one of the most sophisticated surgical centers in the region. The new building also expands the existing Emergency Department and Trauma Center, and adds 150 private patient rooms. The lower levels of the building will open on Monday, October 17. The five levels of patient rooms will open in January 2017.

On the tour of the new facility, visitors will see the new specially designed reception and recovery areas for inpatient and outpatient surgeries, emergency treatment rooms and trauma bays, the advanced hybrid operating rooms and sterilization center, and demonstrations of the da Vinci® surgical system. The tour also will include the facility's green roof, which is the largest of its kind in Pennsylvania and the third largest green roof on a healthcare building in the United States.

Reading HealthPlex's advanced technology, unique layout and quiet, private rooms combine to provide a setting that enhances patient healing as well as patient and family comfort - all with a focus on health and wellness.
