Becker's Hospital Review Names Reading Health President and CEO To Its 2016 List of 'CEOs to Know'

Clint Matthews, President and CEO of Reading Health System, has been named to the Becker's Hospital Review list of "135 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know" in 2016. Matthews joined Reading Health in November 2011 and has been instrumental in leading the health system to nationwide top-hospital status.

According to Becker's Hospital Review, the CEOs on the 2016 list "lead some of the largest, most successful and prominent nonprofit healthcare organizations in the country."

Matthews oversees nearly 7,000 team members across Reading Health, including more than 1,000 physicians and providers in 46 locations. During his tenure, Reading Health has implemented an Electronic Health Records system and became a founding member of Allspire, a five health system consortium to advance quality, population health management, best practices and medical research throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Matthews also led the planning and construction of Reading HealthPlex for Advanced Surgical & Patient Care, a leading-edge, 476,000-square-foot surgical and inpatient tower that opened in October 2016. The facility includes 24 surgical suites, a 17,500-square-foot emergency and trauma expansion, and is topped with an 88,000-square-foot green roof that is visible from all 150 private patient rooms.

Under Matthew's leadership, Reading Health has been awarded the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award in 2014-2016, ranked 8th best hospital in Pennsylvania by US News & World Report and received a 4-Star Rating for Overall Hospital Quality by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Over the course of his career, Matthews has held executive positions in healthcare organizations across the country. Prior to joining Reading Health, he worked from 2004 to 2011 in FTI Consultants' healthcare practice. A Texas native, Matthews received an undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Texas and a master's degree in healthcare administration from Texas Woman's University.
