AHSM Program

AHSMThe Adventures in Health Sciences and Medicine program is a series of connected learning courses designed to promote learning about health science professions for middle school students. Offered via interactive, videoconference presentations. Each course is comprised of a one-hour session that includes lecture, hands-on activity, and collaborative discussion facilitated by Reading Hospital professionals. In addition to participating in the interactive courses, you will work with your peers and classroom teacher to bring their newfound knowledge to life through creative interpretations of the health science professions.

You will participate in presentation topics about:
• Medical laboratory science
• Respiratory care
• Radiology
• Pharmacy
• Physical therapy

The Adventures in Health Science and Medicine Program is brought to you by Reading Hospital in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic.

FAQ

Q: How can I sign up for the AHSM program?
This program is designed for middle school (6th-8th grade) classroom participation only. Currently, registration is limited to four classrooms. The ability to participate is dependent upon the timing of scheduled classes and technology capabilities.

  • If you are a student who is interested in having your class participate, please recommend the program to your science or health teacher so they can research the opportunity.

Q: How much does it cost to participate in the AHSM program?
There is no cost for schools/classrooms to participate, and all materials are provided by Reading Hospital.

Q: Are the AHSM sessions recorded?
AHSM sessions are designed to be live and interactive therefore they are not recorded.

Q: How does my class connect to the AHSM sessions?
AHSM sessions are facilitated using video conferencing technology. Schools must have a teleconferencing system or a computer with a webcam, speakers and a microphone to participate.

Q: Does my class have to participate in all of the AHSM sessions?
Yes, to gain the full benefit of the AHSM connected learning experiences, teachers should ensure that their students participate in all of the sessions.

Q: Can my whole class participate?
Yes, we recommend that the maximum number of students per class is 30. We also recommend that teachers consider their classroom video conferencing capabilities when determining the number of students that will participate in AHSM.
